Who am I?

My name is John and I live in a small rural town in the South West of the UK.

The town is Glastonbury, and if you have heard of it you are probably familiar with the largest music festival in Europe Glastonbury Festival or perhaps you are a witch, a wizard, a conspiracy theorist or a pilgrim…all are attracted to this unique and quirky place.  There are lots of vegetarians here too, which is cool, although I didn’t know many vegans until I started a local vegan group…yep you guessed it…Glastonbury Vegans…and you can find us here: Website or Facebook.

I share my home with Laura (my lovely wife); Robyn (my nearly as lovely step-daughter), and Alf and Freddie (the 2 rescued feral cats who live with us – they are lovely too).

Although I have always had respect for animals (more about some of my favourites as time goes on), I didn’t turn vegetarian until I was 15 following a school biology trip to an abattoir (more about that later) and became vegan in around February 1987 whilst staying at Faslane Peace Camp outside the nuclear submarine base on the Clyde (near Helensburgh in Scotland)…more about that later too.

I have a very dry sense of humour, and may offend some with it, but I don’t often mean to hurt anyone; I love reading, writing, photography, comedy, music (especially stuff at the heavy end of the spectrum), travel, finding new vegan treats, cooking, and of course the animal kingdom.

  1. Love your blog and thanks for the information about Quorn. So great that vegans can learn from each other.
